Rules & regulations

Every registered player and team follows these rules. Rule numbers are used when a matter is raised with the committee.

Desmet CC may update these rules before the tournament and will tell registered players if it does. On match days the umpires and the organising committee give the final ruling.

Registration and eligibility

  1. The registration fee is ₹250 per player and includes snacks and lunch on match days.
  2. Each player registers once. Wrong, duplicate or false details cancel the registration.
  3. Registering does not guarantee a place in a team. Teams are formed through the franchise selection for the 120 player places.
  4. Bring a photo ID (Aadhaar, driving licence, school or college ID) and show it at the registration desk.
  5. Players under 18 must bring written consent from a parent or guardian.
  6. The fee is not refundable, except when the committee cancels the tournament.
  7. The organizers confirm each registration by phone or WhatsApp and tell the player how to pay the fee.

Teams, franchises and icons

  1. Twelve franchise teams take part. Each franchise pays ₹10,000.
  2. The tournament has 120 players in total, which is a squad of 10 for each team.
  3. Two icon players are named: one All Kerala Icon and one Kannur District Icon. The committee decides how icons join franchises and announces it before team selection.
  4. A player represents one team only.
  5. Each franchise submits its final squad list before its first match. No changes are allowed after that.
  6. The 12 teams are placed into two pools by draw.

Match rules

  1. Every match is 6 overs a side.
  2. A team may use up to 5 bowlers. No bowler bowls more than 2 overs.
  3. A toss is held before every match. The winning captain chooses to bat or bowl.
  4. A wide ball or no-ball adds 1 run and is bowled again. A no-ball is followed by a free hit.
  5. The first 2 overs are the powerplay. At most two fielders may stand outside the inner circle as marked on the ground.
  6. A tied match is decided by a one-over eliminator, repeated until there is a result.
  7. In pool matches a win earns 2 points, a tie or no result earns 1 point and a loss earns 0. Teams level on points are ranked by net run rate.
  8. The committee announces the fixtures and the knockout stages after the draw.
  9. If rain or bad light stops play, overs may be reduced. If no result is possible, the committee decides by eliminator or toss.
  10. A substitute fielder is allowed only for injury or illness. A substitute cannot bat or bowl.

Kit and ground safety

  1. Each team plays in its team jersey.
  2. Helmets are compulsory for batters and for any wicketkeeper standing up to the stumps.
  3. The committee provides the match balls. Players do not bring their own.
  4. Bats must be of standard size and in safe condition.
  5. Only the two teams playing and the match officials may be inside the boundary.

Conduct and discipline

  1. The umpire's decision is final. Only the captain may speak to the umpire, and politely.
  2. Players report to the ground 30 minutes before their match. A team not ready 10 minutes after the scheduled start forfeits the match.
  3. Abuse, threats, violence or damage to the ground leads to a warning, removal from the match or a ban. Serious cases can disqualify the whole team.
  4. Alcohol, tobacco and other intoxicants are not allowed on the ground. Anyone under the influence is removed.
  5. Playing under another person's name leads to disqualification of the player and the team.
  6. Keep mobile phones off the field and keep the ground and seating area clean.

Protests and disputes

  1. Only a team captain may protest, in writing to the committee, within 15 minutes of the end of the match.
  2. Umpiring judgement calls cannot be protested. The committee's decision on a protest is final.

Prizes and awards

  1. The total prize money is ₹1,00,000. The committee announces how it is shared among the winning teams.
  2. Individual trophies are given for outstanding performances. The committee announces the categories.

Safety, liability and media

  1. Players take part at their own risk. The committee is not liable for injury or loss of belongings.
  2. Players must be fit to play and should tell the committee about any medical condition.
  3. Photos and videos taken at the event may be used by Desmet CC to promote the tournament.
  4. The committee may change fixtures or rules when needed. Its decisions are final.
